Heavenly Sword, Genji 2, Resistance Sites Launched
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Corporate News, E3, PlayStation 3, Screenshots, Trailers,
The official game sites for Heavenly Sword, Genji 2, and Resistance: The Fall of Man have been launched on Playstation.com, in conjunction with their related announcements at E3. The sites feature screenshots and wallpapers, and in the case of Resistance, a preview trailer.
Heavenly Sword will feature motion capture from Andy Serkis, of Lord of the Rings fame, and the screenshots certainly capture a very lush environment. The character models, and storyline recall a certain similarity to the recent Prince of Persia games.
Genji 2 appears to offer more detail, in both surroundings and character models, and seems to bring more enemies onscreen than its Playstation 2 parent.
The best of the three, perhaps, is the site for Resistance: The Fall of Man. Insomniac, probably best known for both the Spyro and Ratchet and Clank games, returns to its roots, somewhat, with the development of a first-person shooter. The last game seen from Insomniac in this vein would have been Disruptor on the Playstation. The official site offers a trailer in both 720P and 480P formats; the trailer shows action that appears to be similar to Half Life, with alien weirdness mixed with military style action.

Official Wii Site Updated
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Corporate News, E3, Screenshots, Trailers, Wii,
Post E3 Nintendo Press Conference, the Nintendo Wii website has been updated with new content. Gamers can find gameplay trailers, demonstrating how the controller will interact with the various announced games, including Zelda: Twilight Princess,Super Mario Galaxy,Metroid Prime 3. In addition, some gameplay clips are shown from a variety of other games, including:
- Dragon Quest Swords
- Fire Emblem
- Tony Hawk Downhill
- Sengoku Action
- Excite Truck
- Red Steel
- Rayman 4
- Sonic Wild Fire
- Final Fantasy Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
- Madden
- Project H.A.M.M.E.R.
...and many others. Some of the controller actions in the new Wario Ware game look totally insane, and it will be interesting to see how much 3rd party acceptance the new controller gets. At the very least, however, it looks like gamers can expect some excellent first party titles from Nintendo. There are hardware details as well, including information on wireless networking, and support for old Gamecube controllers. And at least so far, there aren’t two SKUs for the Wii, meaning that no one will have to choose between a core and extended Wii configuration.

New Super Mario Preview
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Action, Nintendo DS, Screenshots, Trailers,
Craig over at IGN got a hold of the review copy of New Super Mario Bros. to be released on May 15th in the US, and managed to get some early movies and screenshots posted on his blog. The movies kind of complement those that are slowly being doled out on Nintendo’s site, and show a little more of some of the different environments. The movies and screens look great, and really capture the feel of the old platformer series, while updating the characters and some of the environment to polygons instead of sprites. Purists may shudder at the use of 3D graphics in a platform game, but it really gives the game a modern feel, while still instilling that feeling of nostalgia when gamers first played Super Mario Bros. for the first time.

The Magic Box has some scans of the recently announced PSP-based sequel to the quirky PS2 game, Gitaroo Man. The original game on the PS2 achieved a kind of cult-status, due to the fact that the game received very positive reviews but was difficult to buy, given the low number of copies produced by KOEI. The PSP version will be called Gitaroo Man Lives and will feature additional game modes that will take advantage of the PSP’s ad-hoc wireless networking mode for competitive and co-operative play. The Japanese release is scheduled for May 25th.

New Too Human Screenshots
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Action, Adventure, Screenshots, Xbox 360,
Gamerscoreblog has just dropped some new Too Human screenshots into their Flickr account. Too Human is being developed by Silicon Knights for the Xbox 360, and is scheduled for a Holiday release. Silicon Knights last handled the port of Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes to the Gamecube, but is probably more known for their mind-bending release, Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. Too Human is another game with a long history; the original concept for the game was pitched for the Playstation, and then when Nintendo formed their partnership with Silicon Knights, the game was rumored to be heading to the Gamecube. However, when Silicon Knights ended their partnership with Nintendo and wound up at Microsoft, the game surfaced there. The Xbox 360 may finally be the platform that will support Silicon Knights’ ambitions with the game universe, and looking at these new screen shots in Flickr, one is almost glad that the game never saw the light of day on the Playstation. Some of the screenshots have huge resolutions available, all the up to 4200x3255, which may mean these are frame buffer grabs or target renders. There’s a lot of detail and varied environments in the screens, and it looks like Too Human will be awesome visually, at least, upon its release.

Gears of War Community Site Live
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Action, Corporate News, First Person Shooters, Screenshots, Trailers, Xbox 360,
Epic Games have launched their community site for their upcoming Xbox 360 game, Gears of War. Scheduled to ship in November, 2006, the game was one of the most anticipated releases for the Xbox 360 when it was shown off last year. The site contains sections for community and news, as well as screenshots and trailers. Currently the only trailer is the same movie that was shown at X05 2005 in October, but the trailer has some good shots in it. Gamers will get to see how far the game has progressed at E3 next week, but in the mean time, there is some good stuff to peruse on the site.

New Ridger Racer 7 PS3 Screenshots
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Driving, E3, PlayStation 3, Screenshots,
Impress Watch Japan has a quick preview of the upcoming Ridge Racer 7 for the Playstation 3. The new Ridge Racer is scheduled to be a launch title for the PS3, and promises to allow up to 14 simultaneous racers. Previously, Namco let slip that features from previous game releases for the PSP and Xbox 360 would be included. From appearances, it looks like some of the new screens could be from a scheduled E3 promo video or some kind of looping demonstration, so it remains to be seen if the game in motion will be able to sustain such detailed imagery.

Sony Drops New God of War II Screenshots
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Action, Adventure, PlayStation 2, Screenshots,
Sony has dropped four new screenshots of God of War II on the official game site. The sequel takes place with Kratos having replaces Ares as the God of War. The new screens show of some of the new environments and creatures that Kratos will have to fight in the upcoming game, and the models and detail look extremely good, and look to be a great follow-up to the original game. Gamers can look forward to some more Kratos-style evisceration in 2007 on the PS2.

New Crysis Screenshots
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Action, First Person Shooters, PC, Screenshots,
Electronic Arts just released a bunch of new Crysis screenshots which show off some insane jungle environments, and some shots that look like they may come from cut-scenes in the game. While it is hard to get a feel for how a game is going to look in motion from static screenshots, these images show off some high poly-count models, awesome texture detail, and some cool lighting effects. The bar was set pretty high with the last batch of screens released, and the new shots definitely do not disappoint.

Metal Slug 3D Screenshots
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Action, PlayStation 2, Screenshots,
The Magic Box has managed to grab some screen shots and character artwork from the latest entry in the Metal Slug series for the PS2. Playmore is moving the game to a 3D world, in an over-the-shoulder third person perspective. The screens show off some new environments, but for the most part the game doesn’t look a whole lot different than the previews shown in 2004. Metal Slug is scheduled for a June release in Japan, with no US date known at this time. Franchises that have moved from 2D to 3D have been somewhat of a mixed bag, so gamers should hope that the game translates more like Metroid Prime than the horribly bad C: The Contra Adventure.
